To qualify as an electric bicycle under California law, the motor must also have a maximum continuous rated power of no more than 750 watts.

This vehicle is categorized as a Class 2 electric bicycle for the following reasons:

1. Throttle-Assisted Operation: The bicycle is equipped with a throttle that can propel the bicycle without the rider pedaling.
   
2. 20 MPH Motor-Assistance Limit: Motor assistance is designed to stop providing propulsion once the bicycle reaches 20 miles per hour.
   
3. 750-Watt Power Limit: The bicycle is equipped with an electric motor rated at no more than 750 watts.
   

These features allow the vehicle to be classified as a Class 2 electric bicycle rather than an off-highway electric vehicle, motorized bicycle, moped, or motorcycle, provided the bicycle remains in its original, compliant configuration.

Class 2 e-bikes are generally permitted anywhere conventional bicycles are allowed unless otherwise restricted by a local authority, property owner, park, trail system, or posted regulation.
